The focus of the two-hour deliberations was to sustain the momentum in India-Egypt bilateral relations and to expand the interactions to wider areas of regional and international issues of interest, said a statement from the external affairs ministry. Khurshid informed his Egyptian counterpart of India's approval to establishing a Centre of Excellence in Information Technology at the Al Azhar University in Cairo. Currently, bilateral trade between India and Egypt stands at $5.4 billion annually. India is the third largest destination of Egyptian exports ($2.6 billion) and Egypt is the 11th largest destination of Indian exports ($2.9 billion).
22) India is working to set up an energy efficient power transmission line (HVDC) with Nepal and Bhutan as part of its energy security plans, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said. 10) इण्डोनेशिया के बाली में चल रही विश्व व्यापार संगठन (WTO) की मंत्री-स्तरीय बैठक में 4 दिसम्बर, 2013 को भारत ने कड़े लहजे में कहा कि भारत खाद्य सुरक्षा के मुद्दे पर झुकने वाला नहीं है। भारत के इस रुख से बाली वार्ता के भी असफल होने की संभावनाएं बढ़ गई है क्योंकि खाद्य सुरक्षा तथा खाद्य सब्सिडी के मुद्दे पर विकसित और विकासशील देशों की तनातनी का कोई हल निकलता नहीं दिख रहा है। विकासशील देशों के कौन से समूह ने इस वार्ता में विश्व व्यापार संगठन के प्रस्तावित कृषि समझौते में संशोधन करने की पुरजोर वकालत की है ताकि विकासशील देश अपने गरीब नागरिकों को खाद्य सुरक्षा प्रदान करने के लिए सस्ती कीमतों पर अनाज की खरीद करते रहें? – G-33 (G-33 व्यापार तथा आर्थिक मुद्दों पर विकासशील देशों की आवाज को पुरजोर तरीके से उठाने का मंच है। इसकी स्थापना इन देशों द्वारा एक समान प्रकार की समस्याओं का हल खोजने के लिए की गई थी तथा इसमें भारत, चीन और इण्डोनेशिया जैसे बड़े देश शामिल हैं। हालांकि संगठन का नाम G-33 है लेकिन वर्तमान में इसमें 46 देश शामिल हैं)
11) यूरोपीय संघ ने 4 दिसम्बर, 2013 को 6 वित्तीय संस्थाओं - जर्मनी के डोएश बैंक (Deutsche Bank), फ्रांस के सोसायटे जनरेल (Societe Generale), ब्रिटेन के RBS और RP मार्टिन तथा अमेरिका के JP मार्गन व Citigroup - पर कुल 1.7 अरब यूरो (लगभग 2.3 अरब डालर) का जुर्माना लगाने की घोषणा की। इस संस्थाओं पर इतना भारी-भरकम जुर्माना किस कारण लगाया गया? - इन संस्थाओं द्वारा बेंचमार्क ब्याज दरों को प्रभावित करने के चलते (उल्लेखनीय है कि इन 6 वित्तीय संस्थाओं पर यूरो और जापानी मुद्रा येन में उपलब्ध डिराइवेटिव्स की ब्याज दर को प्रभावित करने का प्रयास करने का आरोप लगाया गया था तथा यूरोपीय संघ की जांच में इसे सही पाया गया। वर्ष 2008 के वित्तीय संकट के दौरान भी ब्याज-दरों को प्रभावित करने का आरोप लगाया गया था तथा यह आरोप उस समय पुष्ट पाया गया जब 2012 के दौरान बार्कलेज़ (Barclays) बैंक लिबोर (LIBOR) दर को प्रभावित करने के आरोप में आर्थिक जुर्माना अदा करने के लिए तैयार हो गया था। यूरोपीय संघ द्वारा लगाए गए इस जुर्माने में सर्वाधिक दण्ड डोएश बैंक पर लगाया गया है, जिसे 72.5 करोड़ यूरो अदा करने होंगे)
12) दक्षिण अफ्रीका में महात्मा गांधी के प्रवास के दौरान 1913 में घटी किस घटना को 2 दिसम्बर, 2013 को यहां के सैकड़ों लोगों ने उसी तरह से फिर जी कर इस घटना की सौंवीं वर्षगांठ मनाई? - महात्मा गांधी द्वारा भेदभावपूर्ण कानूनों के खिलाफ निकाली गई मार्च (इस ऐतिहासिक घटना के रास्ते पर एक विशेष ट्रेन चलाई गई जो डरबन (Durban) से पीटरमैरिट्सबर्ग (Pietermaritzburg) व लेडीस्मिथ (Ladysmith) होते हुए न्यूकैसल (Newcastle) तक चली। फिर चार्ल्सटाउन (Charlestown) से वोल्करस्ट (Volksrust) जेल के उस ऐतिहासिक 6 किलोमीटर लम्बे रास्ते पर सैकड़ों लोगों ने मार्च निकाला जिसपर महात्मा गांधी व उनके अनुयायिओं ने 1913 में भेदभावपूर्ण कानून के विरोध में मार्च निकाला था। गांधीजी ने जिन कानूनों का विरोध किया था उसमें भारतीय अनुबंधित श्रमिकों पर तीन पौंड कर लगाना तथा हिन्दू व मुस्लिम विवाहों को अमान्य घोषित किया जाना शामिल था)
