National-Lok-Adalat-2013


1) A world record of disposing over 28 lakh pending judicial cases in one day was created on 23 November, 2013 in the National Lok Adalat held in the Supreme Court, all High Courts, and district and taluk courts across the country. National Lok Adalat was an initiative to reduce the huge number of pending judicial cases by ensuring speedy justice to litigants and making sure that there were no further appeals. This pan-India initiative was organized by which two organisations? - National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) - Lok Adalat aims at reducing pendency, while at the same time drawing attention of the public to the efficacious alternative dispute resolution method. The cases that were disposed of related to criminal compoundable cases, cheque bounce and bank recovery cases, civil suits, motor accident claims, labour, family and matrimonial disputes. In many states, revenue matters, land acquisition references, and consumer, service matters were also taken up.

2) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 24 November, 2013 issued a fresh cyclone warning of a new looming cyclone, which is expected to turn into a very severe cyclone. This cyclone is expected to be a destructive cyclone and will head towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. What is the name assigned to this cyclone? – Cyclone ‘Lehar’ (IMD announced that the deep depression over south Andaman Sea had moved northwestward to become the third named cyclone this season. ‘Lehar’ would then emerge into southeast Bay of Bengal, intensify further gradually into a very severe cyclonic storm, and move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast)

3) Iran and six world powers on 23 November, 2013 reached agreement on a nuclear deal to temporarily curb Iran’s nuclear programme. Under this agreement reached at nuclear talks held in Geneva, Iran will halt the enrichment of uranium to a level of 20% for six months but would be allowed to continue other parts of its enrichment programme. In return what benefit Iran would receive from these western powers? - The world powers in return would not impose additional sanctions against Iran during that time and would suspend some existing punitive measures (Measures to be suspended include parts of the oil embargo, as well as sanctions against Iran’s petrochemical industry, car production, insurances and trade with precious metals)


4) Which Indian-origin woman diplomat was on 21 November, 2013 sworn in as the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia? - Nisha Desai Biswal (Nisha Desai Biswal took over charge from Robert Blake, who moved recently to Indonesia as ambassador. Nisha Desai Biswal will oversee the US Foreign Policy and relations at the State Department for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. This is the first time an Indian-American is heading the South Asia Bureau)

5) Sebastian Vettel (Germany) won Formula One's season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix on 24 November, 2013, matching country-mate Michael Schumacher's record of 13 victories in a year and equaling the nine consecutive wins of Alberto Ascari (Italy). Vettel's Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber (Australia) was second while Fernando Alonso (Spain) of Ferrari was third. What was the significance of this race for Mark Webber? – This was Webber’s last Formula One race (Webber will be joining Porsche in a sports car series in 2014. The 37-year-old Australian spent 12 seasons in F1, winning nine times and reaching the podium 33 times in 216 races)

6) Which player came out as the most expensive player of the recently held players’ auction for Hockey India League (HIL)? - Ramandeep Singh (He came out as the biggest draw of HIL auctions held on 22 November, 2013 at Delhi. Uttar Pradesh Wizards purchased him for $81,000. Nikkin Thimmaiah was the second most-expensive Indian player of the auction being purchased for $59,000 also by Uttar Pradesh Wizards while Gurjinder Singh was bought by Mumbai Magicians for $56,000. New Zealand's Ryan Archibald commanded $71,000 at the auction and was the second most expensive player of the auction after Ramandeep Singh)

7) International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women is observed today (25th November) across the globe to raise awareness about the problem. UN Secretary General's Campaign for the year 2013 'Unite to end
violence against women' has announced the 25th of each month as Orange Day. The day invites to wear orange attire to highlight its calls for the eradication of violence against women without delay. This year, the Unite Campaign is extending Orange Day to 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.


8) A two day long Global Islamic Economic Summit, GIES gets underway in Dubai today. The summit will be inaugurated by the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The event is aimed at making Dubai the capital of Islamic economy.

9) Aarushi-Hemraj case: Talwar couple convicted of murder. More than five years after the double murder and flip-flops in investigation, dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were today held guilty of killing their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in their house in Noida. Additional Sessions Judge Shyam Lal held both of them also guilty of destruction of evidence in the murder on the intervening night of May 15 and 16, 2008, days before the birthday of the class nine student.

10) RBI to launch CPI-indexed bonds soon. The Reserve Bank of India has said today that it will launch CPI-indexed bonds aimed at protecting the savings of retail investors from the impact of price rise by the end of next month. “Guidelines will be out soon...We are likely to launch the first tranche before end of December. We will come out with details (quantum),” as per RBI Deputy Governor H.R. Khan. He also added “This year it should be between Rs 10,000-15,000 crore (wholesale price and consumer price indexed bonds) but exact amount will come out. This is part of overall borrowing programme”.
About the Green Helicopter:
The helicopter, named Volocopter, developed by the German company e-volo, two seat prototype made it earlier voage in kalsruhe, Germany.
The volocopter uses eighteen electrically driven rotos propel instead of one combustion engine which is environmentally friendly and emission-free.
The emission free Volocopter is a vertical take-off and landing manned aircraft,  with rich features  and incredibly quiet sound, absolutely no noticeable vibrations, new spring strut landing gear and extremely calm rotor  plane that replace conventional aircraft .
11) World’s First Green Helicopter Tested in Germany. Germany’s aviation company e- Volo on 17 November 2013 successfully tested the first helicopter which is noiseless and emission-free named- Volocopter. The Volocopter is an environmentally friendly and emission-free private helicopter.

12) Mexico will award its 2013 International Prize for Equality and Non-Discrimination to Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager shot by the Taliban for championing girls' rights to education. The award seeks to recognize Malala's efforts for "the protection of human rights" and especially her fight to protect the right to education without discrimination on "grounds of age, gender, sex and religion," Mexico's official National Council to Prevent Discrimination said in a statement on Sunday.

13) India has overtaken China as the most attractive investment destination according to a survey conducted by Ernst & Young (EY) a global professional services and consulting firm. The top three investing countries into India, are United States of America (USA), France and Japan, as per the survey results.

14) Iran signed a historic deal with the United States and five other world powers yesterday, agreeing to a temporary freeze of its nuclear program in the most significant agreement between Washington and Tehran after more than three decades of issues. The deal commits Iran to curb its nuclear activities for six months in exchange for limited and gradual sanctions relief. The six-month period will give diplomats time to negotiate a more sweeping agreement. The deal was considered to be a significant deal to restore peace in the Middle East region and remove pressure from Global crude oil prices as Iran is one of the largest Crude Oil Producers in the world. 

15) Global tech giant Apple has acquired PrimeSense, an Israeli firm which specializes in making 3D motion detection technology. PrimeSense is best known for developing gesture control for Microsoft's Kinect sensor, and has made strides towards bringing the technology to mobile. The likely deal value is expected to be around USD 360 million.

16) Ireland and Afghanistan on 24 November 2013 qualified for ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2014 after winning their respective matches in the qualifiers at Dubai. Ireland defeated Hongkong by 85 runs while Afghanistan beat Kenya by 34 runs to qualify as the top teams from the two groups. The remaining four teams will be decided after a series of matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The contestants include Nepal, UAE, Hongkong, Namibia, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy and Papua New Guinea.

17) Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar was sworn in as the 22nd Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh by Governor Ram Naresh Yadav yesterday. He was appointed by President of India. He was earlier the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and has also been a judge in the Bombay High Court. He succeeded Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde who was elevated to the Supreme Court earlier this year.

18) India has donated 2,500 metric tonnes of wheat worth USD 2 million as food assistance to the troubled Gulf state of Yemen. In response to an appeal by the United Nations for humanitarian assistance, the Indian government has extended food assistance in the form of around 2,500 metric tonnes of wheat valued at around USD 2 million to the people of Yemen, a statement issued by the Indian embassy in Yemeni capital of Sana'a said.  The assistance is channelised through the World Food Programme (WFP) and the first consignment has arrived at the Hodeidah Port.

19) Formula one racing driver Sebastian Vettel won the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix 2013 on 24 November 2013. With this victory vettel matched Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 victories in a year and equalled the nine consecutive wins of Alberto Ascari. Vettel’s Red Bull teammate Mark Webber was second in his final F1 race. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari was third.

20) Jason Day, Australian Golfer won the Golf world cup at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne on 24 November 2013. Australia team (Jason Day and Adam Scott) also won the team Championships by beating the American team of Matt Kuchar and Kevin Streelman. With this victory Jason Day collected 1.2 million Dollars for sealing individual Title and will share another 600000 Dollars with Adam Scott for winning the team trophy.

21) West Indies defeat India by two wickets in 2nd ODI. Darren Sammy produced a game-changing unbeaten 63 under pressure as West Indies pulled off a thrilling two-wicket win in the second cricket One-dayer against India to level the three-match series 1-1 in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.India 288 for 7 on 50 overs.(Virat Kohli 99, MS Dhoni 51 not out; Ravi Rampaul 4/60). West Indies: 289 for 8 in 49.3 overs. (Darren Sammy 63, not out, Lendl Simmons 62; R Ashwin 2/37).

1) लंबित मिकदमों के कारण देश की चरमराती न्यायिक व्यवस्था को पटरी पर लाने के उद्देश्य से 23 नवम्बर, 2013 को पहली बार देश में एक राष्ट्रीय लोक अदालत का आयोजन कर एक दिन में ही 28 लाख से अधिक मुकदमों को निपटाकर एक विश्व रिकार्ड कायम किया गया। राष्ट्रीय लोक अदालत के तहत सुप्रीम कोर्ट, देश के 24 उच्च न्यायालयों, सभी जिला अदालतों और तालुका स्तर की अदालतों में मामलों की सुनवाई हुई और विवादों का निपटारा किया गया। राष्ट्रीय लोक अदालत का यह आयोजन किन दो संस्थाओं ने किया? - राष्ट्रीय विधिक सेवा प्राधिकरण (National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)) और सुप्रीम कोर्ट विधिक सेवा कमेटी (Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) ) - इस आयोजन के तहत मुख्यत: मोटर वाहन दुर्घटना के दावे, वैवाहिक विवाद, श्रम विवाद, चेक बाउंस के मामले, बैंकों की वसूली के मामले, दीवानी मुकदमें व यातायात चालान के मामले शामिल थे। लोक अदालत जल्द न्याय दिलाने का सबसे सशक्त औजार माना जाता है जो संविधान की प्रस्तावना के मकसद की पुष्टि भी करता है और ऐसे वृहत स्तर की लोक अदालत के आयोजन से न्यायिक व्यवस्था पर लदे भारी बोझ को करने की दिशा में पहली बार एक इतनी सशक्त पहल हुई है

2) भारतीय मौसम विभाग (IMD) ने 24 नवम्बर, 2013 को एक नए चक्रवाती तूफान के खतरे की पहली भविष्यवाणी जारी करते हुए बताया कि यह तूफान बहुत जल्द खतरनाक स्वरूप अख्तियार कर सकता है। अण्डमान सागर में बन रहे इस चक्रवाती तूफान के आन्ध्र प्रदेश के तट से टकराने की संभावना जताई जा रही है। इस चक्रवाती तूफान को क्या नाम दिया गया है? - 'लहर’ – ‘Lehar’ (दक्षिणी अण्डमान सागर से उठने वाले इस चक्रवाती तूफान के और तीव्र होकर उत्तर-पश्चिम दिशा में बढ़कर आन्ध्र प्रदेश तट को अत्यंत प्रचण्ड गति से पार करने की संभावना मौसम विभाग ने जताई है)

3) ईरान और विश्व की 6 प्रमुख शक्तियों के बीच जेनेवा में चल रही वार्ता में 23 नवम्बर, 2013 को ईरान के परमाणु कार्यक्रम को अस्थायी तौर पर बंद करने के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण तथा ऐतिहासिक समझौता हुआ। इस समझौते के अंतर्गत ईरान अगले 6 माह तक यूरेनियम संवर्द्धन की प्रक्रिया को 20% तक सीमित कर देगा जबकि अन्य सम्बन्धित संवर्द्धन कार्यक्रमों को वह चालू रख सकेगा। इसके एवज में ईरान को क्या लाभ मिलेगा? - इसके एवज में समझौते में शामिल यह 6 शक्तियाँ ईरान पर न तो कोई नया प्रतिबन्ध थोपेंगी तथा उस पर लगे कुछ दण्डात्मक प्रावधानों को कम करेंगी (जिन प्रतिबन्धों को हटाया जायेगा उसमें शामिल हैं तेल बिक्री पर लगा प्रतिबन्ध, पेट्रोकेमिकल उद्योग पर लागू प्रतिबन्ध, कार उत्पादन, बीमा उद्योग तथा बहुमूल्य रत्नों के व्यापार पर लगा प्रतिबन्ध)

4) भारतीय मूल की किस महिला राजनयिक को 21 नवम्बर, 2013 को दक्षिण एवं मध्य एशिया क्षेत्र कि अमेरिकी उप-विदेश मंत्री के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई? - निशा देसाई बिस्वाल (निशा ने राबर्ट ब्लेक (Robert Blake) का स्थान लिया जिन्हें हाल ही में इण्डोनेशिया का राजदूत नियुक्त किया गया है। अपनी इस नई जिम्मेदारी के तहत निशा भारत, बांग्लादेश, भूटान, कज़ाकिस्तान, खिर्गिज़्स्तान, मालदीव, नेपाल, श्रीलंका, तजाकिस्तान, तुर्कमेनिस्तान और उज़्बेकिस्तान में अमेरिकी विदेश नीति के पालन तथा अमेरिका से इन देशों के सम्बन्धों का आधार सुनिश्चित करने का काम करेंगी। यह पहला मौका है जब अमेरिकी विदेश मंत्रालय के दक्षिण-एशिया ब्यूरो के नेतृत्व को भारतीय-अमेरिकी मूल की शख्सियत को प्रदान किया गया है)
