1) Gabriela Isler of Venezuela won the Miss Universe 2013 title at the Miss Universe pageant held on 9 November, 2013 held in Moscow. She beat out contestants from 85 other countries at the 62nd annual competition to nab the crown for Venezuela, which has dominated beauty pageants for quite some time. With this win beauties from Venezuela have won how many Miss Universe titles – Seven (Patricia Yurena Rodriguez from Spain finished as the first runner-up, while Constanza Baez from Ecuador was the second runner up. Manasi Moghe from India made it to the top 10 of Miss Universe 2013 but could not make it to the top 5. The pageant took place in Russia for the first time)
2) Bowing to political pressure, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will not be attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) beginning on 15 November, 2013 in Colombo. 3) Which province of the Philippines came to highlight due to death of over 10,000 people due to the devastating Typhoon Haiyan, which lashed it with speeds of over 300 kph on 8 November, 2013? – Leyte (It is estimated that the super cyclone Haiyan destroyed about 70 to 80% of structures in its path as it tore through Leyte province. Tacloban city of Leyte was the worst affected. Earlier the death toll was believed to be much less)
4) The Maldives Supreme Court ordered the postponement of a presidential runoff election scheduled for 10 November, 2013, one day after the first round of elections failed to elect a clear winner. The runoff was scheduled to be held between which two leaders? - Mohamed Nasheed and Abdulla Yameen (The first round of Presidential election was held on 9 November, 2013 and the three main contestants were former President and leader of the Maldivian Democratic Party Mohamed Nasheed, Progressive Party of Maldives candidate Abdulla Yamin, and Jumhoory Party candidate Gasim Ibrahim. Nasheed led in this round with 47% votes while Abdulla Yamin was second with around 30% votes. Since none of the candidates got at least 50% votes, the runoff election became necessary and was scheduled to be held between Nasheed and Abdulla Yamin. The runoff election was put-off as Supreme Court ruled that the consecutive days of elections would be impractical)

6. The National Education Day of India was celebrated on 11 November 2013 at Gangtok, Sikkim. It has been celebrated in India since the year 2008 to commemorate the anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a great freedom fighter, an eminent educationist and the first Education Minister of India. On the occasion of the
National Education Day of India, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the 40th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition. The theme of the exhibition will be Science and Society.
7. Union Minister of Minority Affairs K Rahman Khan on 11 November 2013 launched a National Portal on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The portal was inaugurated to mark 125th birth anniversary of the great national leader- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. This portal is an initiative to digitise the heritage of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and make his life and legacy available online.
8. The V.C. Padmanabhan Memorial Award 2013 for Ecology and Environment Conservation was presented to eminent ecologist and environmental scientist Madhav Gadgil in Thrissur. The award carries a cash prize of Rs1 lakh, a bronze plaque and a citation.
9. Exit Polls banned till 4th December. Election Commission has banned the publication and dissemination of exit polls of any kind in the five poll bound states from 11th November till 4th December, when the Assembly elections are over. The Commission has also banned the publication of results of any opinion polls 48 hours before polling in a state.
10. SC Stays Gauhati HC verdict terming CBI as 'unconstitutional'. In a huge relief to the Centre and the CBI, the Supreme Court on Saturday stayed the Gauhati High court verdict declaring the agency as "unconstitutional", saying accused in "sensational cases" have sought halting of the criminal proceedings based on that judgement.
11. Prince Charles, wife on 4-day visit to Kerala from tomorrow. A visit to the Jewish Synagogue at nearby Mattancherry, the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth, and a trip to the elephant corridor at Vazhachal will be the highlights of the four-day visit of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles to Kerala, starting tomorrow.
12. India, Korea discuss ways to boost bilateral ties. During the 7th India-Republic of Korea Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se, the two sides conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, which have been upgraded to a Strategic Partnership and have acquired range and depth over the past few years.
13. Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday signed a roadmap agreement to allow inspectors broader access to nuclear sites.
14. The Government of Afghanistan on 10 November 2013 signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the development of road network in the country at a cost of 220 million US dollar. The agreement was signed between Afghan Finance Minister Dr. Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal and the ADB Country Director Joji Tokeshi in Kabul.
15. Ministry of Home Affairs on 9 November 2013 inaugurated RAF Academy of Public Order in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. This academy will train personnel of Rapid Action Force along with selected members of other paramilitary forces and civil police.
16. Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Beema Yojna (BPSSBY) Health care scheme for BPL families launched in Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today launched a cashless health care scheme for BPL families, which would provide free medical services of up to Rs 30,000 per annum.
17. Regional Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2013 launched in Sydney, Australia. The Regional Pravasi Bhartiya Divas was officially launched on 11 November 2013 in Sydney, Australia by New South Wales, Premier Barry O'Farrell and Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi. The convention's objective is to link the vast Indian diaspora and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region with India.
18. Indian Angel Network launches cross-border business plan contest. In a bid to draw a mix of investors and mentors from India and Pakistan and promote the development of cross-border businesses, Indian Angel Network has called for applications under its unique Indo-Pak initiative called ‘Startup Dosti’ — The Cross-Border Business Plan Competition. The programme is aimed at entrepreneurs and has been developed in partnership with the Karachi-London based SEED Ventures and the Washington DC-based Atlantic Council.
19. 'Malala's book banned as she represents West, not Pakistan'. The memoir "I am Malala" written by Teen Pakistani activist Malala Yousufzai was banned from all private schools in Pakistan as she represented the West and not her native country, said the head of schools' association.
20. Typhoon Haiyan made a landfall in northern Vietnam, close to the China border on 10 November 2013. It is the super typhoon which killed thousands of people in Philippines. The super typhoon destroyed large number of towns across Philippines and killed over 10000 people, according to the Philippines’ authorities. This was declared as the deadliest recorded natural disaster of Philippines. The United States, in the meanwhile, declared military help to Philippines.
21. Three astronauts returned to Earth today, following a 166-day mission, bringing the Olympic torch back from the International Space Station after a historic space walk. The trip completes the most ambitious leg of Russia's unparallelled torch relay in the run-up to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next February.
22. Heena Sidhu became a part of the history by becoming the third Indian pistol shooter to win Gold at the World Cup Final on 10 November 2013 in Munich. In the Women's 10-metre Air Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup final, the 24-year-old shooter defeated World Champion Zorana Arunovic of Serbia to bag her first Gold. Prior to her, Anjali Bhagwat (2003) and Gagan Narang (2008) have won Gold at the rifle/pistol event in World Cup finals.
23. Indian men's hockey team finished fifth at the 3rd Asian Champions Trophy at Kakamigahara, Japan on 10 November 2013. In a fifth-sixth place match, India defeated Oman 6-1 by scoring at regular intervals in both halves of the game. Pakistan men and Japan women were crowned as the winners of the Asian Champions Trophy following victories over Japan and India respectively.

1) वेनेजुएला की सुंदरी मारिया गैबरिला इसलर (Maria Gabriela Isler) ने 9 नवम्बर, 2013 को मास्को में आयोजित मिस यूनीवर्स प्रतियोगिता में वर्ष 2013 का मिस यूनीवर्स खिताब जीत लिया। उन्होंने 85 अन्य देशों को सुंदरियों को पराजित करते हुए इस प्रतियोगिता में एक बार फिर वेनेजुएला का दबदबा कायम रखा। उल्लेखनीय है कि वेनेजुएला की धाक इन प्रतियोगिताओं में लगातार बनी हुई है। गैबरिला इसलर की जीत के साथ वेनेजुएला की संदरियों ने अभी तक कितने मिस यूनीवर्स खिताब जीते हैं - सात (इस प्रतियोगिता में स्पेन की सुंदरी पेट्रीशिया राड्रिग्स (Patricia Rodriguez) को दूसरा स्थान मिला जबकि इक्वाडोर की कान्स्टेन्ज़ा बाएज (Constanza Baez) को तीसरे स्थान से संतोष करना पड़ा। वहीं भारतीय सुंदरी मानसी मोघे शीर्ष 10 में तो स्थान बनाने में कामयाब रहीं लेकिन वे शीर्ष 5 में नहीं पहुँच पाईं। यह मिस यूनीवर्स प्रतियोगिता का 62वां संस्करण था तथा इसका आयोजन पहली बार रूस में हुआ)
2) राजनीतिक दबाव के चलते भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह 15 नवम्बर, 2013 से श्रीलंका की राजधानी कोलंबो में आयोजित हो रहे राष्ट्रमण्डल देशों के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों के शिखर सम्मेलन (CHOGM 2013) में भाग लेने नहीं जायेंगे। उनकी अनुपस्थिति में इस सम्मेलन में भारतीय प्रतिनिधिमण्डल का नेतृत्व कौन करेगा - विदेश मंत्री सलमान खुर्शीद (उल्लेखनीय है कि भारत सरकार ने इस सम्बन्ध में श्रीलंका सरकार तथा राष्ट्रपति महिंदा राजपक्षे को सूचित भी कर दिया है)
3) फिलीपीन्स में 8 नवम्बर, 2013 को आए भयंकर चक्रवाती तूफान हेयान (Haiyan) के चलते देश का कौन सा प्रांत सर्वाधिक प्रभावित हुआ है, जहां अब दस हजार से भी अधिक लोगों के मारे जाने की संभावना व्यक्त की जा रही है? - लेयटे - Leyte (लेयटे प्रांत का टेक्लोबान (Tacloban) शहर सुपर साइक्लोन की श्रेणी वाले इस तूफान से सर्वाधिक प्रभावित हुआ। माना जा रहा है कि इस तूफान ने अपने मार्ग में आए लेयटे प्रांत के 70 से 80 फीसदी निर्माणों को ध्वस्त कर दिया है। उल्लेखनीय है कि पहले इस तूफान की विभीषिका के नुक्सान का अंदाजा इतना अधिक नहीं लगाया गया था)
4) मालदीव के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने 10 नवम्बर, 2013 को राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के दूसरे दौर के मतदान को स्थगित करने का आदेश दे दिया। ये आदेश 9 नवम्बर को हुए पहले दौर के मतदान के एक दिन बाद दिया गया जिसमें किसी भी प्रत्याशी को 50% मत नहीं मिले थे। देश का राष्ट्रपति चुनने के लिए दूसरे दौर का यह मतदान किन दो प्रत्याशियों के बीच होना था - मोहम्मद नशीद और अब्दुल्ला यामीन (उल्लेखनीय है कि 9 नवम्बर, 2013 को पहले दौर के मतदान में तीन प्रत्याशी थे - मालदीवियन डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी से सम्बद्ध पूर्व राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद नशीद, प्रोग्रेसिव पार्टी ऑफ मालदीव के अब्दुल्ला यामीन और जम्हूरी पार्टी के गासिम इब्राहीम। इस चुनाव में नशीद 47% मत प्राप्त कर सबसे आगे रहे थे जबकि अब्दुल्ला यामीन को 30% मत प्राप्त हुए थे। मालदीव के कानून के अनुसार चूंकि राष्ट्रपति बनने के लिए न्यूनतम 50% मत मिलना आवश्यक है इसलिए दूसरे दौर का मतदान मोहम्मद नशीद और अब्दुल्ला यामीन के बीच 10 नवम्बर को ही होना था। लेकिन सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने यह कह कर इस मतदान पर रोक लगा दी कि लगातार दो दिन मतदान कराना उचित नहीं है)
5) अभी कुछ दिन पहले ही भ्रष्टाचार के मामले में कारावास की सजा पाने वाले चीन के एक समय के शक्तिशाली नेता रहे बो शिलाई (Bo Xilai) के समर्थकों द्वारा हाल ही में गठित किए गए एक राजनीतिक दल का क्या नाम है? - "जी शियान पार्टी" – “Zhi Xian Party” (इस पार्टी के नाम का अर्थ है – ‘संविधान ही सर्वोच्च होता है’। उल्लेखनीय है कि इस पार्टी का गठन चीन की सत्तारूढ़ कम्यूनिस्ट पार्टी के लिए एक चुनौती माना जा रहा है क्योंकि देश में इसकी अनुमति के बिना राजनीतिक संगठन गठित करना गैरकानूनी है। बो शिलाई को इस नवगठित पार्टी का आजीवन अध्यक्ष भी चुना गया है)
